What Can I Do:

Everyone in the State of South Carolina needs to contact their congressman for the General Assembly and the US House and Senate. We need to let them know that we won't stand for Duke Power or any other power company polluting our state's environment. Below are the addresses to your representatives and senators as well as links to environmental groups that you can join. Also please contact Gov. Nicky Haley to voice your opinion.

Clemson University Research on Bio Diesel:

"Two of the world's leading research universities have entered into a memorandum of understanding to exchange research and create a framework for a biofuels development program." Clemson University and Queensland University in Australia are the two colleges working together on this new project. Clemson University has been working on a new project that could be the fuel of the future. When I went to the college game during Homecoming, I was amazed with the research that they were doing at Clemson. The program that has received a Federal government grant is led by Dr. Terry Walker and David Thornton whom are professors of Bio Systems Engineering at the school.

What is this new fuel called Bio Diesel?

"Biodiesel is a clean burning alternative fuel, produced from domestic, renewable resources such as plant oils, animal fats, used cooking oil and even new sources such as algae." The best thing with biodiesel is that it contains not petroleum products. It can be blended with petroleum products. The professors did tell me that biodiesel contain less hydro carbons and less CO2s. It decreases the emissions by "60 to 80%." It comes from recycled products, and it improves the economy where it is made in America, and not from foreign oil.

With the development of cleaner energy such as Solar Energy, Biodiesel fuel, and even the development of cleaner power plants, we could decrease the amount of emissions of CO2 and other hydro carbons in the US. With the earthquake in Japan in early 2011, the use of nuclear energy seems too dangerous, and will cause many of future health problems to the people of Japan. Even the land near the power plant that the nuclear power plant that was destroyed by the earthquake has been ruined for 1000s of years. Even the use of this new solar tiles found in new roofing would save fuel and decrease emissions. Right now there is a Biodiesel Refinery in Taylors SC that is now making biodiesel fuel. We need to support these businesses that are trying to change our way of consumer production and buying power. We as a people of the United States need to make informed decisions for our selves and our country.
